Alumnus Ronald Nguyen Honored by KCMBA

Recipient of the KCMBA Distinguished Counselors Award

Ron Nguyen (’11) is this year’s recipient of the KCMBA Distinguished Counselors Award, which recognizes KCMBA members who demonstrate professionalism, collegiality, courtesy, equanimity, character, harmony and friendship.

When Ron came to Kansas City as a law student, he didn’t waste any time getting involved and making a difference. He not only became active in numerous civic and community, but he also held many leadership roles in bar-related, civic, and charitable organizations, many that focus on issues of diversity and inclusion, and immigration issues. His interest in pro bono immigration work originates from his parents being helped through the immigration process as refugees from Vietnam.

Upon his graduation from UMKC School of Law, he worked for Legal Aid of Western Missouri for five years, focusing on immigration related issues and blighted and abandoned housing issues, then started his own practice.

In 2015, Ron received the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Section, President’s Award. In 2016, he received the Missouri Lawyers Weekly, Up and Coming Award in Public Service and received the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association’s President’s Award on behalf of the Asian American Bar Association of Kansas City, which he served as the President. Also, Ron was selected for SuperLawyer's Rising Star in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
