Ulysses “Deke” Clayborn (J.D. ’81) been appointed by President Biden as the Region 7 Administrator of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), serving Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and nine tribal nations.
Clayborn is the third UMKC School of Law graduate to be appointed by President Biden in a key leadership role.
Clayborn was most recently the managing member of Clayborn & Associates, LLC, which specializes in real estate development of multifamily housing and commercial development projects. He has served as counsel on numerous development projects, including multifamily revenue bonds, low-income housing tax credits, historic tax credits, New Market Tax Credits, and HUD-insured financing. He was counsel on one of the first complete portfolio conversion RAD transactions in Missouri.
Prior to establishing his own firm, Clayborn served as the General Counsel to the Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC), which finances the development of single and multifamily housing in Missouri. Previously, he has also worked for the Regional Counsel’s Office at HUD.
