Why did you choose to attend UMKC School of Law?
When I decided to attend law school, I considered other schools, but ultimately landed on UMKC because of how well integrated it is in the Kansas City practice area, the tremendous opportunities it provides for its students, and the fact that it is full of kind and brilliant people. Plus, it is the closest law school to the best barbecue in the entire world which weighed heavily in my decision.

What has been your most rewarding experience so far?

During the summer between my first and second year of law school, I interned at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Kansas. While in that position, it was incredibly rewarding to be a part of the substantive practice of law, to build connections with the attorneys in that office, and to get an inside look into the federal justice system. That experience has already made me a better student and, I hope one day, it will make me a better advocate.

What do you plan to do with your law degree?

One of the extraordinary things about a juris doctorate degree is the variety of ways it can be used. While I hope to work in private practice in the Kansas City area after I graduate, I would be just as pleased to find my way into a clerkship or eventually end up working for the government, possibly as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Regardless of my title, my aim is to help clients solve complex legal problems quickly and effectively.

Tell us two interesting facts about yourself:

First, I once invited President Obama to participate in an escape room in Hawaii via twitter and he actually showed up, though it was a year later. Tragically, I left the island just before he arrived and missed the opportunity to see if he made it out in time. Thankfully, he did.

Second, I am the tenth of twelve children in a mixed family made up of full, half, and stepsiblings. As a result, my parents have something like 26 grandchildren already. Family get-togethers are as chaotic as you’d imagine. I like to think this prepared me for the madness of law school.
