Why did you choose to attend UMKC School of Law?
I chose UMKC School of Law because the faculty and staff provide a unique level of support that truly fosters student success. The professors are easily accessible and always willing to go the extra mile to maximize student understanding. In addition, the Career Services Center prioritizes the professional development of each student with mock interviews, consistent communication, and one-on-one meetings.
What has been your most rewarding experience so far?
My field experience has been incredibly rewarding. This summer I interned with the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office. This helped me learn how to practically apply criminal law concepts and legal writing skills to real cases. In addition, I am very proud that my work with UMKC Law’s Clear My Record expungement project helped expand access to expungement services in Missouri. I plan to continue this work as a 2L in the UMKC Expungement Clinic.
What do you plan to do with your law degree?
I am leaning towards a career in criminal prosecution. However, I am also interested in gaining experience in both employment and family law. I do know that at some point in my career, I would like to teach.
Tell us two interesting facts about yourself.
(1) While earning my undergraduate degree, I completed an externship where I helped create educational resources for local organizations to help them identify instances of human trafficking.
(2) When I am not studying, I am helping my dog with his modeling career. Boscoe Beans, my Pembroke Welsh Corgi, is a professional model. He made more money than I did during my 1L year of law school. You can find him on Instagram @Boscoe_beans. My other dog, @basil_berries is cute, too.
