Why did you choose to attend UMKC School of Law?

While researching law schools, I stumbled across UMKC alumni in the technology positions that interested me. In reaching out to alumni, I learned firsthand how many had obtained experience through coursework or ancillary projects with professors. Upon visiting the school, I discovered how fertile and thriving the tech startup scene is in the area. Given the school’s reputation in preparing legal thought leaders, its physical proximity to industry where I could network and acquire experience, it was no-brainer to attend. The “cherry on top” was that I was made to feel like I am a part of the UMKC family from day one.

What has been your most rewarding experience so far?

I’ve been fortunate to have multiple rewarding experiences while here at UMKC Law. However, the one that tops the list was securing back-to-back summer internships with Apple Computers with their legal department in Cupertino, CA. I participated in various activities impacting in-house legal practice areas, while delivering individual projects related to legal ops optimizations. Additionally, I was exposed to the “business of legal” involving relationship-building and management of outside counsel assignments, for which I now have a newfound respect.

What do you plan to do with your law degree?

Given my background as a product manager and engineer, my plan is to pursue a legal career either within the consumer products or high-tech sector. My goal is to serve as a legal advisor to tech entities—ideally as general counsel within a corporation or advising startup organizations.

Tell us two interesting facts about yourself.

I’m a natural-born “tinkerer” and entrepreneur, always working on “side hustle” ideas. Right now, I’m working with others on a business based on combating misinformation and underrepresented stories. Also, I’m the “side-kick”’ to my dog, Biscuit, who everyone knows.
