Scholarship Applications

Although most scholarships at UMKC School of Law do not require a separate application, there are a few that do. See below for the available scholarships for 2025 that require an application. Please note that the availability of certain scholarships varies from year to year. Scholarships will be awarded in late summer to students who have committed to attend UMKC Law.

Baty Family Scholarship

The Baty Family Scholarship will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to working with children and families, and is interested in pursuing a degree emphasis in child and family law.

Applications from enrolling first-year students may be submitted after the second seat deposit has been made (i.e. after May 15, in most situations) and should be received by June 1, 2025. Harry L. Browne Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Harry L. Browne who devoted his career to labor law, this scholarship recognizes an entering law student who expects to practice employment and labor law. Selection is based on the following criteria:

  • An interest in practicing in the area of employment and labor law
  • Financial need

Diverse Student Coalition Endowed Scholarship

The Diverse Student Coalition Scholarship is awarded to one or more incoming students who demonstrate a commitment to serving the legal needs of a racial/ethnic community that is under-represented in the Kansas City legal community including, but not limited to, Hispanic/Latino, Black/African-American, or Asian or Pacific Islander, or the LGBTQ+ community, and have demonstrated financial need.  The Scholarship was created by the UMKC Law Diverse Student Coalition to cultivate and promote legal services in support of diverse communities and thereby foster further appreciation for the legal needs of diverse communities, and to provide financial assistance to students who demonstrate a commitment to serving the legal needs of communities with diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds including, but not limited to, Hispanic/Latino, Black/African-American, or Asian or Pacific Islander, and to the LGBTQ+ community.

Randy w. James Commitment to Justice Scholarship

The Randy W. James Commitment to Justice Scholarship is for entering law student(s) at UMKC School of Law with demonstrated commitment to civil justice, public service and to representing individuals and their families in order to protect their legal rights, a commitment held by the donor in his career as a lawyer.

C.R. Krimminger Scholarships

Several C.R. Krimminger Scholarships are awarded each year to students with high financial need, and selection is based on the following criteria:

  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
  • Demonstrated high financial need (applicants must have applied for financial aid)
  • Preference may be given to those with physical disabilities
