The Intellectual Property emphasis provides students with a focused curriculum of substantive classes and practical skills training that encompasses all the major aspects of intellectual property law, including copyright, patents, trademark and trade secrets, as well as a supervised, independent research and writing experience. The courses are taught by faculty who have real-world experience in diverse aspects of intellectual property practice, helping clients to obtain, license, and litigate IP rights. UMKC faculty are dedicated to not only developing deep substantive understanding in students but also to providing opportunities for students to explore the way that these theories are implemented and utilized in the real world.
Students interested in a career as an IP litigator can choose to combine this emphasis with UMKC’s Advocacy emphasis, while students interested in a transactional career might combine this emphasis with the Business and Entrepreneurial Law emphasis.
UMKC School of Law is approved by the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions of the American Bar Association, 321, North Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60654, 312-988-6738.
