The UMKC School of Law has been designated an “A- Best Value Law School” in the Fall 2017 issue of the National Jurist’s preLaw Magazine.

Since 2009, the National Jurist has consistently recognized UMKC Law as a “Best Value” school, meaning the law school offers an affordable and effective program. The preLaw Magazine takes into account employment success, tuition costs, bar passage success rates, and cost of living in the surrounding communities to determine this best value rating.

This year, the magazine noted that UMKC Law achieved a two-year bar pass state average of 87.5%, which is tied with the University of Missouri-Columbia for the highest bar pass rate of the other schools that made the list. Based on the complex “weighted” formula that the preLaw magazine uses to calculate employment rates for each school, UMKC Law was recognized as having an employment rate of 77.6%.

UMKC School of Law was also recognized for being a top school for Tax Law and Business Law. For both categories, the law school achieved an “A-” rating. The law school’s courses are specifically designed to train students on real-life situations and to prepare them to face the transition from student to lawyer. Tax law touches nearly every aspect of the law and is essential in practicing corporate law, estate planning, business planning and property law. In the same way, business law prepares students for the multidisciplinary nature of conducting business in compliance with a variety of laws and regulations. UMKC School of Law offers a Tax LL.M as well as a Business and Entrepreneurial Law emphasis area for J.D. students.

UMKC School of Law was also recognized for having an affordable tuition rate and a low cost of living.  At under $18, 647, tuition at UMKC is significantly lower than other schools like the University of Texas, for example, which was also given an A- rating by the magazine but carries a tuition rate of $33,995. Living expenses come in at $16,268, much more affordable than many of the schools where residency requires more than $18,000 annually.

UMKC School of Law provides students with a comprehensive, legal education comprised of a personalized admissions process, collaboration with supportive faculty, and practical experience in a booming city.
