UMKC School of Law Alumni have been recognized by The Missouri Bar Foundation and Public Service Awards. The awards will be presented at the Missouri Bar Foundation and Public Service Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, September 13.

The awards recognize legal professionals and their impact in the community. See the full list of awardees here.

Danielle Atchison (J.D. ’14) received the YLS Pro Bono Award. YLS awards acknowledge individuals who have excelled in one or more ways to assist the development and delivery of legal services to the poor or successfully litigated pro bono cases that favorably affected the provision of other services to the poor.

Nicholas S. Beydler (J.D. ’13) received the David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Award. The David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Award recognizes three young lawyers under the age of 40 from different counties within the state of based on their performance of outstanding appellate work.

The Honorable Robert E. Larsen (J.D. ’73) received the Spurgeon Smithson Award. The award honors Missourians who have shown outstanding service toward the increase and diffusion of justice. Each year, a judge, an academic and a lawyer are selected for recognition.

Phyllis A. Norman (J.D. ’03) received the President’s Award. The award is given by the president of The Missouri Bar to recognize meritorious service to the state bar.

Thomas J. Porto (J.D. ’07) and Frank E. Miller (J.D. ’05) received the Lon O. Hocker Trial Lawyer Award. This award is given to three trial lawyers under the age of 40 from different counties within the state of Missouri. The recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated balance between zealousness and honor, strength and courtesy, confidence and respect, as well as other professional qualities.

Dwight K. Scroggins, Jr. (J.D. ’79) received the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys Prosecutor of the Year Award.
