Dear Colleagues,

The Admissions Office and the Faculty Admissions Committee are very grateful for the work that you do in guiding students to the right resources and assisting them in reaching their educational goals. To make this feat easier, we have gathered a collection of links (see sidebar) that we think will be most useful to you as you peruse our website and try to discover more about what makes the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law distinctive.

Please allow me to give what I think are some of the highlights of UMKC School of Law:

  • Affordability +

UMKC Law is extremely affordable with low in-state tuition and many non-resident tuition scholarships available to non-Missouri residents. For the 2018-2019 school year, our in-state tuition is $19,701. Additionally, we offer both merit-based and need-based scholarships, including two full scholarships for members of each entering class.

  • Location +

UMKC is located in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, just a mile from the Missouri-Kansas state line. Our location is an incredible advantage to our law students, as we are just minutes away from dozens of law firms as well as federal and district courts of two states. While urban, our city has a great, neighborhood feel with excellent shopping, restaurants, parks, entertainment, and other amenities.

  • Practicality +

In addition to our many clinics, competition teams and journals, UMKC offers several innovative programs that give students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge and enhance their skill set, both of which we believe are crucial to our excellent employment outcomes. An example of our practical training is our solo and small firm initiative. Students interested in entrepreneurial lawyering learn about both practicing law and running a law practice. Taking it a step further, graduates can take advantage of our Solo and Small Firm Incubator, which offers affordable office space and an office assistant, all while providing mentorship and guidance in managing a legal practice from experienced attorneys.

  • Community +

Students who choose UMKC Law can expect to become part of a community invested in student success. Our dedicated, experienced faculty members devote time and attention to creating a collegial atmosphere in which students, faculty and staff collaborate in the education process. Faculty offices are even co-located with student work spaces, and their doors are open to students seeking assistance and ideas. Further, the greater Kansas City legal community is extensive, inclusive and diverse, not to mention packed with UMKC Law alumni!

UMKC Law offers a very personalized education and experience, and it is our goal to also make the admissions process as personal as possible.  To that end, we hope to be able to meet you in person as well, and we invite you to visit our school at any time.  If you visit during regular hours, we would be happy to give you a personal tour, either with a member of the Admissions staff or with a student if school is in session.  In addition to meeting Admissions staff, we would be happy to coordinate a class visit and/or faculty meeting if you would like to gain greater insight into any of our academic programs.  Further, we love hosting pre-law student groups on campus, so if you have a group of students that might be interested in visiting the Law School, please be in touch with us and we can coordinate a tour, class visit, and/or information session along with a lunch if your schedule allows.

Lastly, please keep us in mind if you would like a member of the Admissions staff or faculty to visit your campus to speak with a student group more generally about applying to law school.  We would love to coordinate our fall travel or spring travel plans with individual school visits.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. Please don’t hesitate to be in contact with us with any further questions you may have.
