International students

International students whose first language is not English or whose law instruction was not in English also must provide an official TOEFL or IELTS score. Students should have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper exam) or 80 (internet exam), or a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 with an individual score below 5.5. International students also must supply literal English translations of academic credentials that are not in English, a copy of the biographical information page from the applicant’s passport, and an original or certified copy of a financial statement proving financial ability to pay the first year of educational and living expenses (for visa purposes). If a letter of support is provided for the financial statement, the letter must be notarized and must explain the relationship between the sponsor and the applicant. Documents that are not in English must be accompanied by an English translation. International students also must have an interview with  a representative of the law school as part of the application process.

International students who are not permanent residents of the United States must obtain an F-1 or J-1 visa to comply with U.S. immigration requirements.

Scholarships and financial aid

To help make the LL.M. program at UMKC even more affordable, many students are offered partial scholarships. In addition, one full-tuition scholarship is often available. Scholarships are awarded on a case-by-case basis, taking academic performance into account, as well as English proficiency for international students. No separate scholarship application is required.

Some LL.M. students qualify for government-supported financial aid.
