Students are a central and vibrant part of the law school’s Community of Learners. Student Services is dedicated to providing students with the necessary support that fosters the best possible learning experience, and ultimately, academic success. The Student Services director, Ashley Swanson-Hoye helps students navigate through the day-to-day life experiences that co-exist with the academic rigors of law school study. A broad range of services supports students from, but not limited to, personal counseling, academic guidance, disability and ESL support, exam administration, the laptop clinic and student organizations.
Ashley joined the School of Law in June 2016. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Washburn University and her Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Ball State University. After working for Washington University in St. Louis for 5 years, she moved to Kansas City and worked for Metropolitan Community College-Longview as an academic advisor prior to starting at UMKC School of Law. She is passionate about inclusion and social justice, legal issues in higher education, and student advocacy. Stop by her office to chat and grab coffee, cookies and candy.
Jenny joined the UMKC Law School in July 2016. Previously, she spent 11 years at NC State as Coordinator of Advising for Sociology & Anthropology in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jenny received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Georgia. She went on to earn her M.A. in Liberal Studies at NC State where her research focused on Islamic Feminism in Iran.
