Life at UMKC is different from virtually every other law school because of the school’s unique position within the Kansas City community. The School of Law is located at the edge of the Volker Campus in the heart of Kansas City and its roots go back to the Kansas City School of Law, which was founded in 1895. Being located in a vibrant city allows students to have access to real-world opportunities and events that feature practicing lawyers with real-world experience. The law school experience extends far beyond the classroom and we offer our students many opportunities to get involved, including student organizations that match a variety of interests within the law school and the larger university community. Our school prides itself on innovation and it is home to state-of-the-art facilities, including two modern courtrooms and faculty suites with student offices and carrels meant to encourage faculty-student interaction and collaboration. The School of Law also features the Leon E. Bloch Law Library, which houses an extensive collection to meet the research and information needs of our students.
We take pride in being an urban public law school that has a small liberal arts feel and we are dedicated to educating students to become outstanding lawyers who will serve their communities and the nation in the highest traditions of the legal profession, concentrating always on the foundations of good lawyering: respect for people; respect for ideas and respect for justice. We are the premier law school of Kansas City and we provide our students with a comprehensive, affordable legal education, as well as the tools and skills needed to experience professional success. We are UMKC School of Law.
