Why did you decide to attend law school? And more specifically UMKC?
I decided to go to law school because I have always wanted to be an advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. I made the decision to attend UMKC Law because it is a tight-knit community where you not only learn what it means to be an attorney but you also make some of your best friends. You are also given opportunities to network with alumni and professors.
What has been the biggest challenge as a law student?
The biggest challenge as a law student has been learning how to balance my academic life with my personal life. The experience is different for everyone, but I think it is important to dedicate time specifically for studying and time to do leisurely activities.
What are your interests outside of law school?
I love to watch both college and professional sports. I support the Jayhawks, the Chiefs, the Royals, Sporting KC, and the New York Knicks. I also enjoy playing sports with my friends as well. If I am not watching or playing sports, I love to attend concerts and explore Kansas City.
What is one piece of advice you would give to future law students?
One piece of advice I would give to law students is to remind yourself that one bad moment (or a series of bad moments) does not define you. Law school is difficult. Life will also throw many different things your way, but you made it here for a reason. You are capable of succeeding even if you do not always feel that you are.
