Ariel Newman is the Student Services and Reference Librarian at the UMKC Law Library. Ariel has taught basic legal research as well as advanced legal research in selected topics, such as business and transactional law research. As the Student Services Librarian, Ariel hosts workshops on various legal research topics and provides instructional support to students. She is primarily responsible for providing reference assistance to law students and increasing student engagement with the law library.
Prior to joining the library faculty, Ariel was a Reference Services Librarian at Mercer Law School. A Georgia native, she earned her B.A. from Mercer University in 2017 and her J.D. from Mercer Law School in 2020 (coined a double-bear). She earned her M.L.I.S. from North Carolina Central University in 2022.
In addition to her library responsibilities, Ariel also serves as the Managing Editor and Publishing Coordinator of the Journal of Southern Legal History. In her spare time, she likes to read, watch her favorite shows, and play video games.
