UMKC Receives Private Papers of Alumnus Charles Evans Whittaker

On February 17, the University of Missouri-Kansas City received forty linear feet of private papers for Justice Charles Evans Whittaker from the U.S. Supreme Court Archive. An archivist is now curating these documents at the Miller Nichols LaBudde Special Collections Library.

Professor Tony Luppino Awarded UM System Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year

Tony Luppino, UMKC Rubey M. Hulen Professor of Law and Director of the Law School’s Entrepreneurship Programs  was recognized with the first UM System Entrepreneurship Education of the Year award on Friday, Feb. 3, during the inaugural UM System Entrepreneurial Educators Summit in Columbia, MO.  The award recognizes his distinguished activity in developing and nurturing entrepreneurs.

UMKC Law Launches Professor’s New, Improved “Famous Trials” Website

Famous Trials” first appeared on the Web in 1995, making the website older than about 99.96% of all websites. In 2016, the site seemed to be showing its age. Famous Trials 2.0 debuts today, February 14, 2017, with a cleaner look, additional video and audio clips, revised trial accounts, and new features that should improve navigation around the site. You can find the new homepage here. (For the foreseeable future, the old homepage will remain up and provide links to materials at the new site.)

UMKC Law Hosts ABA Client Counseling Competition

On Saturday, February 4, the law school hosted the regionals for the ABA Client Counseling Competition. Under the direction of Professor Meg Reuter, and the assistance of Cara McLaughlin and Sara Holdmeyer of Bryan Cave, UMKC Law students went up against ten other teams from all over the country.

UMKC Law Teams Advance to Final Round in ABA Tax Challenge

screen-shot-2016-12-27-at-10-38-26-amTwo UMKC School of Law teams advanced to the final round of the ABA Section of Taxation Law Student Tax Challenge and both teams placed. Out of 22 submissions for the LL.M division , only four teams are chosen as finalists, and two of those teams were from UMKC Law. Jake Allison and Andrew Ralls placed second, overall, and Lindsey Holcumbrink and Brynne Brown placed first in written submission.
