UMKC Law Competes in Nationals for American Association for Justice Competition

After winning regionals in the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Student Trial Competition, the team of Mollie Harmon (J.D. ’17), Nick Schmiemeier (J.D. ’17), Allison Stephens (J.D. ’18), and Taylor Haas (J.D. ’17) competed in the national tournament in Cleveland, Oh. from March 27 – April 2, 2017. This competition started with 224 teams all across the country, and only 16 teams advanced to AAJ Nationals. We invited two of the team members to share their experiences and feedback from the tournament.

The National Jurist Recognizes UMKC Law as a Top School for Technology and Practical Training

The National Jurist PreLaw magazine has announced this year’s “Best Schools for Practical Training” for 2017 and UMKC School of Law has made the list for the second year in a row. UMKC Law was also listed in the Top 15 Schools for Technology Law Offerings.

UMKC Law Members Honored at 2017 Women’s Justice Awards

The 19th Annual Women’s Justice Awards will be held in St Louis, MO on April 27, 2017. The Awards are to celebrate and recognize women lawyers, law students, up-and-comers, entrepreneurs, public officials and upstanding citizens. Recipients are chosen by a committee of prominent judges and lawyers from around the state, many of whom are past Women’s Justice Award recipients.

Associate Dean Allen Rostron Awarded 2017 Missouri Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching

Associate Dean of Students and Professor of Law, Allen Rostron, has been named the recipient of the 2017 Missouri Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award is presented to a single outstanding faculty member at each participating Missouri college or university.

UMKC Law Advances in National Criminal Justice Trial Competition

The UMKC School of Law mock trial team struck again. From Thursday, March 16 to Saturday, March 18, a team of four students competed in the National Criminal Justice Trial Competition in Chicago, IL. This makes the third consecutive UMKC advance to the final four round of a competition this spring.

BLSA and HSLA Host Pipeline Scholarship Banquet

On Thursday, March 23, the UMKC Black Law Students Association (BLSA) and the Hispanic Law Students Association (HLSA) hosted the annual Pipeline Scholarship Banquet at Shook, Hardy and Bacon LLP. The proceeds of the Pipeline Scholarship are given to either one or two incoming students of color, who demonstrate(s) financial need.

UMKC Law team Advances in AAJ Student Trial Advocacy Competition

UMKC has once again advanced in a mock trial competition, this time in the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Student Trial Advocacy Competition. UMKC was in the top eight teams of 300 entered in the competition. The team consisted of Taylor Haas (3L), Mollie Harmon (3L), Nick Schmiemeier (3L) and Alison Stephens (2L). They will travel to Cleveland, OH to compete in the AAJ Nationals from March 27 to April 2.

Glesner Fines Appointed Interim Dean of UMKC School of Law

Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Barbara A. Bichelmeyer has announced that Barbara Glesner Fines has agreed to serve as Interim Dean of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
