If I am interested in making a gift to the UMKC School of Law, what can I support?
Law Foundation Annual Fund
More than 90% of the gifts made to the school of law each year are directed to the Law Foundation Annual Fund. A complete description of the Law Foundation Annual Fund can be found here.
Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers – the need for scholarships
Gifts for scholarships are of the highest need at the School of Law. More than 80% of our students qualify for financial aid. However, with limited scholarship funds we are only able to assist about 25%. Additionally, we are in a very competitive market for students with three other law schools in our neighborhood. Unfortunately, some great students who want to come to UMKC are lured away because of very generous scholarship offerings at these other institutions.
Areas of emphasis and excellence – Advocacy, Law and Entrepreneurship and Family Law
To meet our goal as a premier urban public law school, attention and resource are being devoted to the areas of advocacy, law and entrepreneurship and family law. Funds are sought for a variety of purposes for each of these program areas. These include funding possibilities such as sponsoring trial teams, underwriting programs in entrepreneurship and support for the family law clinic.
To discuss funding possibilities for the UMKC School of Law please contact Kirk Baughan, Law Foundation Director of Development.
As the Director of Development and Major Gifts, Kirk works with alumni and friends to bring them closer to students, faculty and programs to help enhance the law school and achieve new levels of excellence. A Kansas State University alumnus and Salina, Kan. native, he has 23 years of higher education experience through his positions with the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, Arizona State University and the Kansas State University Foundation.
