The UMKC School of Law offers several educational programs. The Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree is the first professional degree and is the degree generally required to become a member of the bar. The LL.M., or Master of Laws, is an advanced degree in law for those who have already obtained a J.D. degree or its equivalent. UMKC offers three LL.M. degrees. The General LL.M. program can be designed to focus on a particular content area. UMKC offers the General LL.M. for International students who desire an American legal education to supplement their law degree from another country. Specialized LL.M. degrees are also available in Tax Law. In addition, the School of Law offers several combined-degree programs. These include the J.D./MBA, J.D./MPA, and J.D./LL.M. (Tax).
