Diversity programs
UMKC is dedicated to supporting and promoting diversity within the legal profession while supporting the foundations of good lawyering: respect for people, knowledge, ideas and justice. Explore our programs below and learn how you can become part of our community.
Lunch and Learns
The 1L Enrichment Program for diverse first-year students is hosted in conjunction with Seigfreid, Bingham, Levy, Selzer, & Gee (SBLSG). This program offers lunch and learn sessions facilitated by recent graduates and experienced attorneys on topics such as study habits, test preparation and career development. Students also benefit from the Annual Diversity Luncheon with Legal Aid of Missouri.
Pipeline Diversity Scholarship
The Asian Pacific Islander, Black and Hispanic Law Students Associations have created the Pipeline Coalition Diversity Scholarship to provide financial assistance to high school students, college students, and first-year law students.
Courtroom to Classroom Spelling Bee
The Courtroom to Classroom Spelling Bee for Afrikan Centered Education Collegium Campus students is a combined effort with the School of Education and the community. Students have the opportunity to see college and law school as an attainable goal and are awarded laptops and law school scholarships.
High school visits
The law school is committed to strengthening the pipeline from high school to professional programs. We strive to connect and collaborate with area high schools to provide informational sessions to students who may be interested in a law career. For more information, download our brochure (PDF).
So You Want to be a Lawyer?
All individuals considering a career in the law are welcome to attend this annual event. Attendees will participate in a mock class, hear a keynote address from a local judge or attorney and meet law students and faculty.
Diversity Recruitment Forum
Our annual Diversity Recruitment Forum is designed to help you jumpstart your journey to law school. At this event, attendees can obtain information on scholarships, financial aid, and taking the LSAT, as well as network with diverse legal professionals and attend a mock law school class.
