Professional and Career Development Center

The Professional and Career Development Center is staffed by professionals who have insight from diverse backgrounds and career paths and are passionate about assisting students and alumni in finding meaningful employment. The Career Center provides career advising and professional development guidance to current law students and Juris Doctor alumni.

The Career Center works with a variety of employers, including companies, government agencies and law firms who recruit UMKC students and alumni. In addition to the professional and career development services of the department, the Career Center also operates UMKC Law’s Pro Bono/Public Service Program.

UMKC’s career advisors offer individualized counseling, numerous resources and expose students to a variety of career possibilities through programs and networking. Career Services Spotlight

Kansas City native, Doretta (Dee) Goolsby (J.D. ’17) is the 2018 recipient of the Judge John W. Oliver Fellowship. This $5,000 forgivable loan is given to a highly qualified UMKC School of Law graduate to pursue a post-graduate career in public service. Goolsby works as a Capital Habeas Unit Assistant Defender for the Federal Public Defender Middle District of Tennessee. Her goal is to help those who don’t have the resources to help themselves.
