Staff Director of the Entrepreneurial Legal Services Clinic
Judy Sharp has over 36 years experience practicing law, mostly as a litigator.
She earned her J.D. from UMKC, where she placed as alternate in the Moot Court competition and served as cases and statutes editor for the Urban Lawyer. She worked for two years as a staff attorney in the Municipal Court Unit of Legal Aid of Western Missouri before establishing and maintaining a partnership with Maureen Scully. They closed that practice when they began working for the UAW Legal Services Plan, a prepaid legal services plan provided by the “big three” U.S. auto makers to their hourly workers. She later resigned to pursue an LL.M. in taxation at UMKC, which she completed in May 2000.
Professor Sharp’s experience includes several jury trials and numerous bench trials in the areas of domestic, criminal defense, consumer and debtor defense. She also holds a masters of arts in American Studies from the Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
