Honorable James Carey “Jim” Thompson (’79)

Honorable James Carey “Jim “Thompson (’79) passed away on November 16, 2016. Following 24 years in private practice he served as Prosecuting Attorney for Ray County for two years and later was appointed to the bench as an Associate Circuit Judge for the 8th Judicial Circuit Court. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served Central Intelligence during the Vietnam War in 1971- 1972. 

Ryan W. Horsman (‘07)

Ryan W. Horsman (‘07) was appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon as the new Prosecuting Attorney for Mercer County. Horsman was an attorney in private practice with the Chillicothe law firm of Chapman and Cowherd P.C. He is a former Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, where he served until July 2016. Horsman also served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Public Safety Division of the Missouri Attorney General’s Office and was an associate with a law firm in St. Joseph.

Honorable Robert T. Altice Jr. (’89)

Honorable Robert T. Altice Jr. (’89) was appointed to the Court of Appeals, 2nd District of Indiana. He was appointed by Governor Mike Pence. Judge Altice’s legal career began in Jackson County, MO handling felony cases as a deputy prosecutor before being promoted to Chief Deputy Prosecutor for the Drug Unit. He then practiced with a Kansas City civil law firm. After moving to Indianapolis, he joined the law firm of Wooden McLaughlin & Sterner.

Athan J. (Athanasios) J. Vrentas (’88)

Athan J. (Athanasios) J. Vrentas (’88) passed away on November 4, 2016.

William B. “Bill” Starnes, III (’88)

William B. “Bill” Starnes, III (’88) passed away on October 30, 2016. Bill was a partner at Reed Armstrong in Edwardsville, IL.

Joseph Frank Caresio (’57)

Joseph Frank Caresio (’57) passed away on November 2, 2016. He went on to practice law in Kansas City for 57 years. After retirement he served as a legal consultant those in the entertainment business. Joseph was a Veteran and served in the U.S. Army.

Tara Moreland (’16)

Tara Moreland (’16) was recently hired as an Associate Attorney at The Law Offices of Anderson & Associates, where she practices civil litigation, specializing in landlord/tenant law and creditors’ rights.

Professor Steven Popejoy (’88)

Professor Steven Popejoy (’88) serves as head of the School of Accountancy in the Harmon College of Business at the University of Central Missouri. He recently had an article entitled “Right to Work: A Legal Rights Perspective” accepted for publication in the Labor Law Journal, co-authored with (’89) alumna Professor Deni Oas, also of UCM.

The Honorable John Moran (’57)

The Honorable John Moran (’57) passed away on October 2, 2016. He practiced law for 31 years. Judge Moran was appointed to the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit of Missouri in 1988. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran.

Jessica Agnelly (’05)

Jessica Agnelly (’05) was nominated as President-Elect to the Civil Litigation Committee for the KCMBA.
