Job and internship opportunities for current UMKC law students are all listed on our password-protected online database, Symplicity. For instructions and questions, visit our
Symplicity guide.
UMKC graduates or licensed attorneys who have been given reciprocal services through our office can access job listings by establishing a Symplicity account. To obtain reciprocal services, contact your law school directly. Read our reciprocity policy for more information.
Judicial clerkships
A judicial clerkship is a one- or two-year commitment to work as an assistant to a trial or appellate court judge. A clerkship provides a great opportunity to advance one’s legal career by developing their practical legal skills and a behind-the-scenes understanding of how courts operate. Clerkship applications are limited to graduating law students and law school graduates. Applicants are urged to abide by the principles set forth in the Federal Law Clerk Hiring Plan found here.
The Online System for Clerkship Application and Review (OSCAR) offers a web-based application system to file materials online and designate which judges to whom you’d like to apply. Participation in the system is voluntary, so not all judges may be listed.
Individual counseling
Students are encouraged to seek personalized counseling on career planning and job searches. Experienced staff is available to review résumés and cover letters, discuss career goals and develop an employment strategy. To set up an appointment, contact office assistant Maggie Porras or stop in to room 41.
