Norman Besheer (‘55) is now managing director of Modern Fire Safety, LLC, a subsidiary of Gunter Pest Management, Inc., as well as CEO of Gunter.  He was recently elected Honorary Mayor of Waldo.

Jay Macey Rosenblum ('51) is in the process of publishing a novel The French Lieutenant and the King of Rome. A historical romantic novel set during the occupation of France during World War II.



Prof. G. Michael Fenner (‘69) was elected as President of the Nebraska State Bar Association.  He is the first academic lawyer to hold that position.



Dan Sturdevant ('74) became President of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation.



Allison Murdock ('88), Deputy Managing Partner of the Stinson Leonard Street LLP, was named to Benchmark's Top 250 Women in Litigation in 2014.  She has made the list three consecutive years.

Jeffery Eastman ('83) received the Charles Shaw Trial Advocacy. This award is for those who exhibit outstanding trial skills and a passion for trying cases involving the innocent accused.

John Miller (‘80) is a Contract Management Consultant and has several national publications, on his website

Michael Swisher (‘83) has opened the Swisher Law Office in Lee’s Summit, MO.



Sherrie Brady (‘96) The Law Office of Sherrie Brady has moved to 1114 Main Street Blue Springs, Missouri. She practices family and criminal law.

Courtney L. Fletcher, (’95), has joined the Springfield firm of Carnahan, Evans, Cantwell & Brown, P.C., and has joined their Estate Planning Group.

Chris Lucas ('93) designed a new app to create digital juries.



Kristen Bevil, ('03) has recently joined The Indiana Rail Road Company as General Counsel based in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

G. Lee Cross Jr. ('07) announced the Cross Law Firm, LLC has re-located his firm to Westwood, Kansas. In 2013 he was elected to the JCCC Board of Trustees.

Blake Green ('08) announced he has joined the firm of Burgess and Green.

Desarae Harrah (‘05) a partner at Martin, Leigh, Laws & Fritzlen, PC, was recently recognized as a 2013 Super Lawyers Rising Star and named as the Kansas City Business Journal’s Best of the Bar awardee.

Jessica Piedra (‘08) was recognized for being a champion for immigrant rights at the 2013 Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Noche de Gala Awards.

Melody Rayl (‘07) has joined the Kanas City Office of national labor and employment law form Fisher & Phillips LLP as an associate. Her practice focuses on labor and employment counseling and litigation for business clients.

Charles Regan (‘03) recently joined the law firm of Yonke Law, LLC. The Firm's practice consists of medical malpractice, personal injury and other torts, as well as worker's compensation and criminal defense.

Blake Heath ('08) was honored among the 2014 class of Missouri Lawyers Weekly Annual Up and Coming Lawyers

Kim Shaffer Beatty,  ('04) Senior Attorney at Garmin Int'l, was promoted to the Worldwide Office in Schaffhausen, Switzerland now living in Zurich for a three-year stint. She will be working with General and European Counsel in matters of EU law.





Molly A. Callender ('14) has joined Husch Blackewell's Kansas City Office.

Raymond Dake (‘10) has joined the law firm of Siro Smith and Dickson PC as an associate attorney.

Jarrett Leiker ('13) joined the law firm of Davis, Bethune & Jones, LLC.

Sean Randall (‘13) has joined the Missouri State Public Defender System, Lebanon Office.

Parke Stevens, Jr. ('13) is a candidate for Texas County prosecuting attorney.

Parke Stevens, Jr. ('13) won the election for Texas County Prosecuting Attorney, Houston Missouri, in an election against an incumbent of 12 years.


In Memoriam


James Fellenstein ('53) passed away on April 18, 2014.

Hon. Calvin Hamilton ('56), our district's first chief magistrate judge, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014. Cal graduated from UMKC Law School and began practicing, beginning what would be a 35-year legal career including serving as U.S. District Attorney and later appointed Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Judge Hamilton retired from public service in 1991.

William E. O'Brien ('56) passed away on April 25, 2014.

Samuel C. Sherwood, Jr. (‘51’), 90, on March 20. While in law school he was awarded Who's Who of American Law Students and was included in the 1950-54 volume.



Thomas J. Jones, Jr. (‘72), 70, on March 31. Tom had his own law firm on the plaza, which focused on labor law.



Janie Faye Smith ('83) passed away June 17, 2014. She practiced Family Law at the Law Firm of Wham & Wham in Centralia, IL.
