History
Sandford B. Ladd graduated from the University of Michigan before moving to Kansas City to study law at the offices of Douglas & Gage. As an attorney, he served as special counsel for the state of Missouri in the railroad rate cases, counsel for the Kansas City Board of Education for more than 30 years and president of the Kansas City Bar Association and the Missouri Bar. During the Cleveland administration he was appointed as U.S. Minister to Russia. Not only was he a founder of the law school, he was also among the founders of the Kansas City Bar Association in 1884 and served on its admissions committee which fought to raise state bar standards.
